Prestige Students Are Thankful for Their Dance Friends!

weekly dance classes

It’s the season of giving thanks! So tell us, what are you thankful for? What things in your life bring you joy? What things do you hold near and dear to your heart? For us, our dance families and their continued support make us grateful year after year.

So this year has us thinking, what are our students grateful for? We of course know that they LOVE to dance, and they love sharing special moments with their teachers. But another big piece of their grateful spirits is always their dance friends. Many of them are thankful for the unbreakable bonds they have with their fellow classmates.

So after years of watching our students make lifelong friendships at dance, we thought it was time to share a little bit more about why that magic happens. After all, our dance parents don’t always get to see what happens in class! Our staff always says “dance friends make the best friends,” and we can’t wait to share why!

4 Reasons Why Dance Friends Make the Best Friends:

1. Familiar Faces From School to Dance

Of course, our students LOVE meeting dancers that they’ve never met before, but when they recognize a familiar face from their classes at school, it’s a game-changer! We watch as students get excited on their first day of dance when they recognize a friend from school. And they ALSO tell us when their dance friends are in the same classes with them on the first day of school. Dance makes kids feel that much more connected to their community!

2. Dance Builds Teamwork

Teamwork and support for one another is at the forefront of both our competition team program as well as our weekly dance classes. Students work together to perfect their routines, cheer on their teammates, and meet group goals throughout the year. When you are supporting one another and investing in each other’s successes, it’s easy to form close bonds that can’t be broken!

3. Sharing a Common Interest Brings Kids Together

Having something in common helps kids make new friends and be social. When children have a common interest, it gives them things to talk about, things to do together, and things to look forward to as friends. It’s not uncommon for our students to tell us that they practiced their dance routine during their play-dates or performed for their friends on the school playground!

4. Growing Up Together At The Studio

Something that makes dance unique is that kids often get to stay in the same classes with their peers year after year. Our clear-level progressions and flexible class scheduling options make it so that they can essentially grow up together at dance. Many of our oldest students can look back with their peers and remember their shared routines from their very first dance years.

With all these things in mind, one thing is for sure, dance friends make the BEST friends! Ask any of our teaching staff and they will probably tell you about how the people they danced with growing up were oftentimes their most treasured friendships. The memories our students make together are truly priceless.

This Thanksgiving, our students are thankful for their dance friends. We see it each and every day when they share smiles on the dance floor! Happy Thanksgiving from all of us here at Prestige Dance Studio!

P.S. It’s not too late to join us in our 2021/2022 Weekly Dance Classes. Watch as your child makes lifelong friendships! View the schedule and register today!

How To Share Your Love Of Dance With Friends

Share dance with friends! Free trial classes for cedar rapids dancers! Our Prestige dancers are SERIOUSLY passionate and that is one of the things we love most about our dance family. For a lot of dancers, it may start to feel like you have a whole secret life at the studio that your non-dance friends know nothing about. We want that to change! Doing something you love is great but it is an even better feeling to be able to share it with the people who are closest to you. That’s why we wanted to give out some excellent ideas to help your children share their love of dance with friends.

  1. Have a dance-themed sleepover. Get out the old dance costumes, pull out the dusty disco ball, and get ready to boogie! Your dancer can make a special playlist with all their favorite songs and help you clear a “dance floor” in the living room.  Your children’s friends will have a BLAST dressing up and dancing the night away together. Oh and don’t forget to have snacks and refreshments ready because your little dancers will need to refuel frequently hehe!
  2. Make up a dance together. Instead of playing that video game, make up a dance instead! There will be COUNTLESS laughs and giggles coming from the dance room for hours, it’s a guarantee. They may even put on a show for the parents later if you are lucky!
  3. Watch a dance-themed movie or musical. This may give friends a little perspective into what your dancer goes through at the studio. I mean really, who doesn’t like a musical?!
  4. Invite them to a performance. Friends will get a front-row view into what it means to be a dancer. They will sit in awe watching the result of all the hard work your dancer put in. It also feels GREAT as a dancer to step into the auditorium knowing you have your “crew” there to support you!
  5. Invite them to try a class at Prestige. If your non-dance friend is interested in learning more, what a better way to show them what it’s like than having them TRY it! Of course, we recommend having them try a class that matches their ability level. That may not always be the same class that your dancer is currently enrolled in. Our trial classes are FREE and we are still accepting enrollment in most of our classes up until October 31st.

Have any other ideas to share the love of dance with friends? We would love to hear about them!

Dance-Inspired Halloween Costumes

Cedar Rapids Dancers will love our ideas for halloween! Halloween is JUST around the corner, do you have all your costumes ready and picked out? If not, you are not alone! We are sure that many of our dance parents out there are starting to panic a little. We have just the thing for those parents, the ultimate dance-inspired Halloween costume list. Feel free to go through it, check your closet for things you already have and put together something amazing! These costume ideas would be perfect for any dancer OR any parent hehe!

Do you have a favorite dance icon? We LOVE the idea of dressing up as your favorite version of Brittany Spears, Michael Jackson, Beyonce, or Audrey Hepburn. Pick your favorite look and go for it! There is also a slew of professional dancers to choose from. Try Misty Copeland as “Firebird”, Martha Graham from “Lamentation”, Maddie Ziegler from a Sia video,  or even a judge from “So You Think You Can Dance!”

What is your favorite dance movie, Broadway show, or ballet? Can you make a costume inspired by a character? We ALL love “Dirty Dancing,” “Footloose,” “Grease,” “West Side Story,” “Swan Lake,” etc. There are SO many memorable characters to choose from! The best part is that most wouldn’t even require a trip to the store!

For people who want to keep things a little simpler, we think the classics are FABULOUS as well! Be a ballet, hip-hop, jazz, or modern dancer. Wear your favorite dancewear and call it a day. Also taking on dance from your favorite century can be super fun! We love a good poodle skirt or side pony. If you are going for a more edgy look this year, a zombie dancer or cheerleader will ALWAYS give a good scare.

You see? There are SO many great options to choose from that incorporate dance in some way. We hope this gave you a little inspiration for this year’s festivities. We can’t wait to hear your Halloween costume plans and see what you come up with!

Dress Down To Support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

Dress Down For Dance

Have you decided to join in for Dress Down for Dance?? We could not be more excited about this fun week of classes happening at our studio from February 20th-26th. As you all know, our teachers can be pretty strict about our dress code hehe. During this week of normal dance classes, we give students the opportunity to FINALLY wear what they want to wear! It can feel amazing to express your inner self through dance clothes. And to make it even MORE fulfilling, all the proceeds are going to an incredible organization, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). Paying $5 the night of your regularly scheduled dance classes will allow your dancer to participate in the dress down for one whole night of dance. The best part? It will help support the LLS.

In case you need any more convincing to get in on the fun, let me tell you a little about the LLS and the important work they do. Their main focus is to find cures for blood cancers. They also provide patients the information, support, and tools necessary to access treatment and care. The LLS is one of the leading organizations for blood cancer research putting in over $1 billion since it’s creation to this effort. They also provide free information, support groups, financial support, and much, much more for patients and families.

We are so honored to be sending the proceeds from our dress down to the LLS. We want to do our part in helping them continue to do the amazing things they do. Our family at Prestige always goes above and beyond with helping others. There are no words to express how inspiring it is to watch young students get behind the “giving back” message. I cannot wait to see all of the participants for Dress Down for Dance and of course the outfit choices!
